I've been doing pole dancing since Jan 07 as a hobby, concidering I have no dance/fitness training and have an office based job most of my friends think I'm fairly brave/nuts to do it, especially as I'm 37!
Anyway, you asked for tips/suggestions
Tip 1
Just before pole dancing shower
Sounds like a odd thing to say, but damp skin sticks so much better than dry
Oh, and NEVER apply any moisturiser or anything else.
Tip 2
To clean the pole well....
Get 2 Microfibre cloths (we find these work best in class)
Wet one
Use the wet one then dry with the dry one.
NEVER use just the dry one as any grease gets put on it then you wipe it back on the pole.
Tip 3
Climbing...
We all struggle with this when we start!
PVC boots help to grip better than skin, they also look good and disguise those bruises we all get from this hobby!
However if you can't afford boots then take another damp cloth to class (don't use the one for the pole, the other dancers wouldn't thank you for that!). Just before going to the pole wipe your legs over with the damp cloth to make your legs slightly damp so you stick better.
I go to class with girls in their early 20s, they don't have so much an issue with this, but even they find it works when their legs are a little dry towards the end of class. Older skin dries faster.
Tip 4
Inverts......
Another thing that takes a while to master I find.
If you're struggling to get your foot on the pole to begin with try bending your leg more at the knee
If you're wearing thigh high boots and struggling to go upside down it's probably because you're used to bending at the knee and can't because of the boots, try wearing shoes or knee high boots.
When you get your ankle on the pole straighten your body to shove your body up the pole.
Tip 5
Superman...
Be brave and flick your bum over and clasp thighs, lock your ankles with straight legs...... it's a leap of faith, you will slip a bit, just don't lose your bottle and jump off.
If you can sit on the pole or do recliner then you can hold yourself in superman, it's the same grip just upsidedown.
If you get any tips for doing a shoulder mount then let me know hahahahaha
